Golden Sweet Potato Festival is held the fourth week in October each year in Golden, Texas, the Sweet Potato Capital of the World! Join us at this "Best of Small-Town Festivals" to celebrate family, friends, and heritage.
What began as a "community event" and fundraiser has since become a huge celebration- one of the largest events in Wood County, Texas! It's a time for family and class reunions, but especially for the farmers, it's a time for celebrating the sweet potato harvest. Today, the festival is an arm extended into the community which distributes charitable funds throughout the area to five volunteer fire departments, Meals on Wheels, local scholarships, and the Special Kids' Farm and Ranch Day, just to name a few. If you were to visit the festival, you would still see the live sweet potato auction. But you would also see and experience more! Who could have predicted what an important role a variety of sweet potato called the Beauregard would become to a little farming town in Texas! ?
Every year the Golden Sweet Potato Festival accepts applications for a local scholarship for Seniors. These scholarships are made possible by the donations received.
With the help and support from families and businesses in the community we have over 1,000 donated items that include trucks, dolls, bikes, clothes, diapers, etc… all this goes right back to the kiddos in need from right here in our little community. Thank you for your generosity.
